New Year Resolutions

After my normal 2 month blog layoff, I figured I would try again, to get this blog going.
So in honor of the new year, I am going to look at last years resolution and post some new resolutions for this year.
LAST YEARS:
1. Lose some weight.. Anheiser Bush keeps sending me thank you letters so this might be a sign that I need to get off the sauce and get to the gym.
Result: I have gained weight.. replaced beer with liquor and that did not work. Back to eating right and getting a grip on having drinks at night. Also started to lift with JD Schellnutt.

2. Win a fcking tournament that has over 100 players.. I have won several under 100 but never won one with more than that (I got 2nd 3 times this year). To do this I need to read some strategy blogs/books and play about 300 MTTs this year (only played about 50 last year).
Result: Hit my goal on this one. Won 2 MTT's (not much but better than nothing) and played in about 300 MTTs. I also had several seconds.

3. Get a purpose for this blog other then me just posting info.. I need to create something that is worth reading.. going to take some time though.
Result: Still no purpose.

4. Get out to Vegas in June for the WSOP.. I want to play in the $2000 PLO event.
Result: Didnt happen.

5. Spend more time with the family... take some time to kick, throw and shoot the ball with the boys in the afternoons. Also plan some family trips.
Result: Hit my goal on this one. Make 1 to 2 hours almost every night to spend with the kids and wife. We spent a lot of time at the beach together and I coached my oldest son soccer team. Limit my poker playing to after 8pm when the kids were getting ready for bed and the wife started studying.

6. Find a job at a college that has a pharmacy school for my wife and is in a warm and tropical setting.. Hawaii is the front runner but there are some schools in West Palm Beach that look promising.
Result: Didnt happen. Could not get the house sold as the market has gone to shat. Wife is getting locked into Creightons online Pharmacy school as we have not sold the house. So no Hawaii for now. Maybe after she finishes, we will go for a year.

RESOLUTIONS FOR 2009.
This will be a running blog until I get all my resolutions figured out, but here is the start.
1. Play 3000 sngs this year. I will either accomplish this a build my BR (my ROI for sngs are between 7 and 10%) or I will go insane. :-)

2. Get to vegas for the WSOP. This is a long shot as I am currently using my live BR to help pay bills but if I have a decent score (3K or higher) between now and then, I will be in Vegas trying to qualify for big dance (and some PLO tournys).

3.Get my weight between 190 - 195 from my current weight between 200 - 205.

4. Play 300 MTT's.

5. Grind out the Iron Man bonus on FT and stay at Silver or higher each month. This way I can qualify for the bonus offered every 6 months and get a free shot at the Iron Man tourny.

6. Get back involved in the blogger tournaments and post once a week to the blog.

Bodog Blogger Tourny Series

Looks like Smokkee is starting another blogger tourny series. This gives me incentive to start the blog grind again as I played a couple of the tournys in the last series and they were a lot of fun. I play as SnappyLC at Bodog.

I also played the Mookie last week for the first time in about 6 months.. got lucky and pulled off a third. Nice night... played some cards, had a couple of beers and listened to Buddy Dank.

Took 4 months off

OK.. back to the blog.. weather has been nice here over the last several months so I have been outside with the family and slacking on the blogging. Back to the blog grind for now.

Interest article about multi tabling

My current limit is 4 to 5 tables but I would like to move up to 7 or 8. I think I will work on some of these tips that were offered in the article and see if it helps. First thing I am going to change is to go from cascading my tables to fitting them all on one screen. This way I can see all the action at the tables and wont get the dreaded time out during a big hand. If anybody reads this blog, let me know if you have any suggestions.

Slacking at Blogging but not a quitter

OK. Back in the saddle again.
Was using Epassporte at Cake but it is now not longer supported. So now I cant redeposit on Cake and I just went broke there. This happened when I went well above my Cake BR of $500 and played on the $200 buy in table.. one missed draw and one player hitting a draw against me and I was on the rail at Cake... needed to be a lot more patient in grinding out my $5oo first time depositor bonus. Should have bought in at the $25 table (this would have been 5% of my Cake BR, instead of 40%..lol) and just grinded out the bonus. Went for the home run shot and struck out. I still have $400 left on the bonus so once they get their deposit issues fixed, I will redeposit, be patient, grind it out and get my money back.

Put some money back on FT so I could play some of the blogger events (Mookie, Dookie, Skillz and RC).. this is a losing money situation for me (posted stats in last blog) but I am thick headed sometimes so I will keep playing it (I really enjoy the chats, blogs and overall atmosphere of the tournaments.. plus, I am not a quitter.. I will take one of these down.. just need to make a few adjustments in my game).

On a positive note, just bought a refurbished computer at the online Dell outlet store. Got a good deal on one for $700 (dual core, 2 gigs RAM, 17 monitor, N wireless card, webcam, bag). They have alot of great deals and I am computer savy so I can fix just about anything on a laptop except the motherboard (they cost about as much as the laptop to replace. Found this out after my Toshiba motherboard blew one month past the warranty..ugh!). Now I will be able to keep all my hand histories and reads on one machine (I currently use 2 different computers for this), so I wont have all my info scattered about. I can also keep all my web page design stuff and job opportunities in one spot (wife is going to pharmacy school next year so I looking for part time teaching opportunities online.. I have a part time gig at ECU but it is for only one semester each year).
I had fixed a laptop for this purpose before but sold it to my brother in law as he needed it for his step daughter.

Put some money back on FT to play the $3 rebuy, $5.50 mixed games and some bloggerment tournys. Taking a break from the cash games online as I am getting crushed... need a big score as I put a sizeable dent in my small BR with losing $500 at Cake, $500 at Bodog and buying a $700 computer (all this over the last 2 weeks.. ugh!).. Played way over my BR at Cake and Bodog and got what I deserved.. back to BR Management 101 for me (1% for tourny and cash game buy in's online).

Crushed in the bloggers

Really enjoying playing in the blogger tournys but after several month of playing, my stats arent looking so good.

and along with my PLO stats

It is time to give it a rest for a couple of months at Full Tilt. Luckily I have a rakeback deal and grinded out about $1000 in bonuses so I basically broke even over the last several months.

I withdrew everything off of FT and will be playing tournys at Bodog and the cash game at Cake (used epassporte to get money on Cake.. had to wait 10 days but it was hassle free. Also got a 33% rakeback deal through RakeBrain).

I have about 25000 point and am going to attempt to grind out a small br at FT so that I can play the Mookie, Dookie and possibly the Skillz but for the most part, I am over it. Great site, great game but I am getting crushed to say the least and if Furguson cant win on FT (dropping $18,000 over about the same period), I dont stand a chance..lol.

Anatomy of a Tilt and a Dookie Win

The above is the result of a Full Tilt tilt and the fact that I was ready to call it a night. I apologize in advance to those that got in the way of the "train wreck". So how did I get to this point.. open raising every pot and reraising any raise.. It all started so simply...

March 11.. another day at work, come home spend some family time with the kids, put them to bed.. wife goes to office to study Chem and Calc (she should be the one tilting), me to my trusty laptop, Full Tilt open, Jack n Coke in hand... Sign up for Skillz event (PLO.. my favorite event) and start grinding on the $20 cap PLO short handed tables (started at the $80 cap tables about 3 months ago and after getting my @ss handed to me playing ABC PLO, I am now grinding on the 20Cap.... these 3 months has laid the ground work for the March 12 Dookie massacre).
Just plodding around on the PLO tables, going nowhere.. up some here, down there... then the following happens..
I pick up a full house on the flop.. I have 99xx... flop is 988... one heart.. I pot bet and get one caller.. I hope he has the 8... he doesnt and he is up to something far more sinister.
Turn is the 9 of hearts.. I hit quads.. I check, he checks back...
River is the 7 of hearts.. I come out of hiding and bet the quads, he quickly pots bets... I look at the board (up and down str flush possible), take a slug of Jack n coke.. repot, he calls and turns over my misery 5h6hxx.. runner runner gutshot str. flush... I have become numb to these kinds of PLO hands at FT over the last 3 months.. If it isn't str flushes over my quads its quads over my "nut" fulls.. so no emotion (or so I thought... the TILT was brewing).
I click the sit out option on all three table, finish my Jack n Coke and head to the kitchen for round 2. The first Jack n coke is always bad luck.. the second one is when it all turns around.. or so I reasoned.
I check my FT points and have earned enough for the day to keep my freeroll hopes alive (last weeks Bronze freeroll is whole other story.. have AQ snapped off twice by K7 and J10 while my buddy JD Schellnutt goes on to crush the field. Few thing worse than your friend on a heater and playing well while you are on a cooler and playing like sht... kick to the balls, being feed to piranhas and your first STD come to mind but thats about it). I close out of the PLO cash game and prepare for the Skillz event.

Short and brutal was the Skillz, I flopped the nut straight and a set, CK also has the nut straight and a spade flush draw, spade on the turn, no pair on the river and I am out the first fcking hand.. my favorite game, kids asleep, wife in her study coma, drink in hand.. I am gone.. just like that....
and so the TILT builds... 3 months of @ss kicking on the PLO table, Bronze freeroll ball busting, quads into a straight flush and now out first (and a BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM from Evy just to rub it in some more).. only so much a man can take before the TILT consumes.

I turn in for the night, tomorrow is another day....

March 12th, work the day away, play with the kids when I get home, chat and eat a nice dinner with the wife... I am excited.. the Mookie and Dookie loom in the night. Kids head to bed and wife heads to the office to study. I pop open a beer and begin my nightly ritual.. play 3 tables of PLO until I get my freeroll points for the day and play the nightly tournaments.. The TILT still breathes but is hidden under the hope on a new night. PLO starts off as bad as the last night ended.. I am down 3 buyins playing ABC PLO.. wtf I think as the TILT begans to slowly boil over.. a smart man would quit at this point but I am an ECU grad and very few of us have been accused of being smart. I finish my beer and make the first of what will become a 3 Jack n Coke night. One shot, two shots, three shots and then a wiff of Coke, the first sip,... ahhhh...
First hand back.. I raise.. I get called in 2 spots... I hit a piece of the flop. I pot bet, first caller shoves, second caller folds, I call.. runner runner suckout and I take the pot... and it feels so wrong but so right.. I can feel the TILT.. we are becoming one. Another runner, runner suckout and I am back to even, I take another sip of Jack, kick off the PLO tables after breaking even and start the Mookie...

I play the Mookie with a controlled level of TILT.. not as reckless as the PLO cash game but not as tight as I should.. It was foolish to think I could control the TILT... when it rises, it always gets the best of me (sort of like trying to control a slutty girl friend.. it is all fun until it goes real bad.. like you put a ring on her finger and then ask her not to sleep with your friends.. but thats another story). I am running the Mookie at the first break after I put a sick suckout on SnailTrax.. (top pair w gutshot vs set and I turn the gutshot... the TILT made it feel so right). It was my time to take down a blogger event.. or so I thought..
Then it all turned bad and it turned bad very quickly.. First, I take a suckout when my AQ gets rivered by KQ and then Lucko gets seated immediate to my right and proceeds to double up with any two cards while I bleed off my chips. How does he hit ever card under the sun I ask myself?? I get down to an M of 7, open shove with KQ, run it into AK and thats it.. Scott crushes the field with any two cards, Lucko is crushing the field with seemingly any two cards.
TILT logic take control (aided by my 3rd Jack n Coke ). TILT LOGIC... If players can win a holdem tournament by playing any TWO cards, I will be able to CRUSH the Dookie with any FOUR cards... and so it began... raise, reraise, all in every hand... suck out after suck out after suck out until I took down the Dookie and left everyone scratching their heads and saying wtf...

So there it is TILT LOGIC.. go all in/call with just about any TWO or FOUR cards and you will leave the rest of the field going WTF instead of you.

PS My book TILT LOGIC with 10 chapters of examples and strategies will be coming soon. Advanced orders are available and autographed copies are per request :-)

Same Old SH**

Nothing new or note worthy to post about this week. Still losing money in the blogger tournys but having fun. Breaking even on the cash games. Still holding on to my same BR (miracle for me as I have been busted more times than I would like to count). Poker is basically taking a big back seat as some real world issues have arrived (selling house, wife finishing up pre pharm classes, looking for a place to move for her to attend school). University of Hawaii at Hilo has a Pharm D program and the Comp Sci dept just opened an instructor position... be hard to pull all that off (sell house (goes on market this week), move to Hawaii, new job, new school for kids) in 6 months but it is out there.

Weekly Summary

Post a couple of results from the past week.

Pulled off a small cash in the skillz event.. pushed w 27o (the hammer) when I was just about out of chips, rivered a 2 and that gave the momentum to finally cash in this event..lol

Pulled off a second (1400+ players) in a freeroll at bodog.. I had manage to turn $120 into $2 last Friday, so this was a nice little cash to keep me rolling on the site.

Also, cashed in with a 4th in 3 rebuy (good for $450).

Another worthless post... just no time to do this right now.

Friday night game

Played Friday night at Club G (friends house where a bunch of friends play on Fridays). Was able to work up a nice stack going to the final table, kept building my stack and final split the payout with Club G himself. We both had a huge stack of chips, so we figured a split would better than playing heads up for 2 hours. I probably should have played it out but it is a pain to try to deal every other hand and focus on your cards. Need to talk to Club G about giving 3rd an extra $20 and have them deal. So I made $140 in the tournament and gave back about $90 in the cash game. Which brings me to my next item... I see myself as mainly a cash player who enjoys playing tourns.. I always felt like my cash game was better than my tourny playing but lately, my bankroll (about $5K) has come from 2 nice cashes (won 7K pulling a 2nd in a $200 buyin and won on the SunCruz for a $1700 cash)... go figure.

I really suck at this blogging (and probably poker)

OK.. been two weeks. Just nothing interesting to post.. sos (same old shit).. bankroll keeps going up.. then down.. up.. then down... up then down.. nothing new there. Only real positive is I havent gotten bored playing and committed bankroll suicide.

Played Mookie last night and got ousted when I shoved 22 into a blind steal and the blind steal calls with A9s (I had the guy pegged as a tight player and figured he would only call my push with AA through JJ, AK and AQ but obvious I wrong). Hoyazo hit a flush on the river and that was it for me.
I really need to stick to ABC poker when I am in pots with certain players (really thought my read on his range was correct and was surprised at the call but thats poker.. yea!).

To top the night off, I was deep in the $3 rebuy, just started the Dookie and just started a $10 turbo on Bodog when my modem went out.. I rebooted, got reconnected and then it quit for the night. I blind to a cash in the $3 rebuy and was blinded out in the others.

Just grinding for now, if I can get time, will start posting some Omaha hands.. need to make this site worth something (right now I am failing miserably at that).

Computer setup and Final won a big pot

Just got my KVM (Keyboard, Video and Mouse) switch from NewEgg and it works great. Nice deal for $20. Now I will be able to play on my laptop hard drive and use my desktop keyboard, mouse and monitor. The advantage of this is that I can load PokerTracker Omaha on my laptop, use the laptop to play poker (either at my desktop or wireless if my wife is using the desktop) and then take the laptop with me to work, on the road, vacation, etc; and be able to analyze the hands I played as all the hand histories will now be on one drive (before I would play on both the laptop and the desktop and my hand histories were split between the two. It became a pain trying to keep track of the hand histories (I was storing them on a USB drive and swapping the USB drive between computers to store hand histories but his gets tedious). Now that I have this setup, my goal is to start posting a daily Omaha hand analysis.

Finally had a hand hold up in Omaha.. AA86 (me) vs KKxx vs J857...
Cap Limit of $40 (.50/1)
I limp, KKxx raises, J857 calls, another caller, I pot bet to $25 ($40 is cap), KKxx caps it, J857 calls and I call (I had to call but I dont like having AAxx vs 2 callers).
57x on flop. J857 flops 2 pairs and I flop a straight draw.
turn 3.
river 3. I won with two pair.. After 3 weeks of beat downs, I feel like I won the lottery..lol (Looking forward to getting the Omaha PokerTracker software and analyzing some of the pots I am getting involved in).

Qualified for 2 FTOP Sats (PLO and PLO8).
Ran JJ into AA in the Mookie
Missed nut flush draw in the Dookie.

Rakeback

Merry Christmas... I received my Rakeback today at Full Tilt which was about $450. I signed up with Rakebrain about 5 months ago and have received about $1800 in rakeback.
Use this link if you decide to sign up for rakeback as I could use the extra dough (getting my a@@ handed to me in Omaha). You can use the Rakebrain to sign up for several different sites. I just signed up for Cake poker and once I figure out how to get my money in (both credit card were declined) I plan to play there (getting burned out on FT and also getting crushed there lately)

Been slacking on the blogging

So much for the blog a day new years resolution.. I am still sucking at this.

Quick update.
SunCruzing with Ron and JD Schellnutt!
Went SunCruzing the last weekend and won/chopped the $110 Friday NL tournament. Nice cash for $1700... had on river magic card that saved me early but for the most part, my money was in good and I survived most of my races.

Lost may patience in the cash game on the night trip and was down $100. It was one of those session where I should have been happy breaking even (card dead) but I forced a hand with a weak kicker against a player who had been playing TAG all night and he took me for about $175.

Finished up about $1500 for the trip (minus the money I spent taking Ron and JD out to celebrate the tourny win/chop).

Spent the last week getting my a@@ handed to me in online Omaha and tournys... dropped levels in Omaha cash game to work on my aggression (spent to much money just calling raises... want to work on running the table).

Friday at ClubG!
Won/chopped our weekly Friday tournament at Club G. 14 players and we grinded down to 3 after about 5 hours of play. It was 2am and we were burnt, so we chopped and called it a night (my son has basketball games at 8 am on Sat. so I needed some sleep). I have to talk to ClubG about his structure. We need to get through a 13 person tourny in no more than 3 hours.

SuperBowl Rebuy at ClubG!
We had 18 players for our ClubG rebuy/addon tourny on Sunday. I rebought once and addon at the break. Worked my way to the final table stealing blinds and pushing with position with any 2 cards. This strategy finally blew up as I ran Q8 into JD's AJ. A on the flop, 8 on the turn (some hope), blank on the river sealed my fate. JD went on the take it down and the $1000 first place prize (ClubG got second and $700) while Andy pulled a 3rd for $300. CONGRATS JD.. well deserved win.

Dookie Win!

Took down the Dookie (my favorite tournament on Full Tilt) after getting knocked out of the Mookie with AJ ( AJ vs 10 10.. nice flop for me KKJ but the turn was a 10 and sealed my fate).
Have to give props to ricky424.. I had a huge chip lead starting headups play and he hung on and hung on and hung on and even worked his way up to a decent chip stack. Finally able to seal the deal when I won the high in Stud Hi/Lo (neither of us qualified for the low).. My high was basically a pair of 9's which beat his pair of 3's (we both had good draws but neither hit.. lucky for me). For myself, this is one of the most challenging tournaments around.. different games with different structures (from Turbo Razz to Limit HOE). I almost didnt play this as I knew a limit game would take several hours and I have to get up with the kids on Thur morning but I am glad I sucked it up and played. I am also enjoying the Skillz tournys on Tuesday but no results there yet.

Sun Cruzing

Spent an interesting weekend in Myrtle Beach...

Last Tuesday, my friend Ron calls and says he is going to Myrtle Beach to play poker all weekend. The Sun Cruz has 2 cruises a day out of Myrtle Beach and his plans are to play several sessions over the 3 day weekend... the gears start churning.. The wife has been wanting to go back to Myrtle Beach.. I want to play poker.. I could get this going. So I run it by my girl and she is game.. I play 1 session, if I make enough to cover expenses (about $400 for 3 day, 2 nights), then I will play again on Monday. I call Ron back, the trip is ON!

A fellow blogger (who is slacker about blogging than I am) JD Schellnutt, had told me about the soft tables and golfing gamblers on the Sun Cruz, so I was excited (either was going to shell the table or take some of the sickest beats on my life :-). Family and I arrive at the Ocean Reef (if you ever go to Myrtle Beach, stay here.. great rooms, excellent staff and fun lazy river for the kids.. also a JD Schellnutt recommendation). Ron and I meet about 6pm and head to the boat which leaves at 7. He is a very good player and confirms what JD had told me about the soft tables (he finished up about $600 on the 2/5 table). I get on the boat and am pleasantly surprised about the accommodations, had a nice little dinner, tons of slot machines, craps and 6 poker tables (4 of them were 2/5 NL and 2 were 10/20 Limit). I get a seat on the 2/5 NL and watch the DUKE game while chatting with some of the other players (I like to find out how much they play.. what sites they play, this way I can find out how experienced they are and maybe find out about the play at other casinos or poker sites).

The action gets started 10 handed. I usually play tight early to get reads. So pretty early on I figure out that a $25 raise will get about 5+ callers and a $40 raise will isolate.. I bought in for $300 ($400 was the max) and have about $1000 total. With this type of action, I felt I was going to need at least this much. After about 30 minutes, I realize that limping in the first 6 positions was useless as someone was going to raise. So I gave up on limping early and either raised to generated several callers, did an isolation raise (did this w AA and KK) or folded (did this alot as I only played about 15 hands during our 4 hours of play.

First hand starts out with the BTPH (Big tit possible hooker) raising to $25 with the hammer. 3 caller (for her hand, not the other thing). 2 heart flop and she bets, 2 callers (again, for the cards). She checks the turn, everyone else checks. River is a heart, she bets $50 more, gets called (on the hand) and turns over a flush.. the table goes crazy (some complimenting her ( cards that is, stay with me here) and some dogging her (cards again). So after this hand, she starts talking about how she and her girlfriend love rubbing peanut butter on themselves and playing twister (no lie). Half the guys at the table head for the bathroom.. jk.

I finally pick up a playable hand (A6 of spades... very playable at this table) on the button and make the standard $25 call... A108 (2 spades). UTG bets $25, another players call, so I call with top pair and nut flush draw (thought about reraising to see if I could take the pot but didnt see that working with this crowd plus I wanted as many players in the pot as possible with this draw). The turn in a blank, UTG check, next player checks and I bet $50 (As $25 was the bet everyone would call preflop, $50 was the bet everyone called on the flop.. you had to bet $75+ to get a fold). This bet enabled me to take the lead in the hand and sweeten the pot if I hit on the river. If I dont pick up my spade on the river, then I can just check it down (so I dont have to pay for/fold a pair of Aces with no kicker) or I can move all in and try to take the pot (which would have been a long shot with this table). River is a spade.. UTG checks, other player checks, I value bet $50 (this was callable, anything higher and they fold), UTG calls and other player folds.. I take down a nice first pot for the night. I won a couple more pots and left with a nice win ($400) for the night.. so I had covered the trip!

On to Monday, sent the family to the Aquarium at Ripley's (if you go to Myrtle Beach, this is must see.. just watching them feed the rays and petting the rays is worth the price of admission (especially if you have kids) and Ron I headed for the day trip on the Sun Cruz. Paid the $10 boat fee, loaded up on some breakfast and hit the $2/5 table. There was only one $2/5 table and one $10/20 limit table going. The action at my table began just like the table on Saturday.. $25 to see the flop and $25/$50 for every bet afterwards. One lady was keep the action going by raising every other pot and then leading out for $80 on the flop.. she won/stole several pots and chipped up about $300 early. Some of the guys were dogging here play... personally, I liked it.. she kept the action going and she bet whether she had it or not.. she could sense the players that were timid and she pounded on them. One hand in particular, she played very well. The player on my right led out w QQ, she reraised w AKs (clubs) and QQ called (bad play by him.. he should have reraised to find out where he was at.. you might be thinking he is trapping here but...)
Flop comes out 10 5 8 with two clubs. She fires out $50, QQ calls and another player calls behind. Turn brings a blank, she checks, QQ checks and player behind checks. River is a spade, she bets $80, QQ calls and player behind folds. She shows the flush and takes down the pot... QQ turns to me and starts to bitch that she is going to go broke chasing flushes. I just nod my head in agreement while thinking to myself that he played that hand so passively that he pretty much deserved what he got (Also, she wasnt chasing the flush, she was betting it.. big difference).
First, he should have reraised preflop or at least reraised the flop to find out where he was at (did she have AA or KK.. she had raised alot of pots so this was doubtful). OK.. so you call preflop and then call on the flop, she checks the turn, so you check?? Have to bet here.. you put her on a draw, so make her pay. She was a maniac but not stupid. She wasnt moving all her money in on a one card draw. So by her betting the flop, she got a free card on the turn (good play by her, bad play by the QQ). River is the spade, you put her on the flush draw, you let her get there, she gets there and then you pay her off.. as the Guinness people say, brilliant, just brilliant.. Then you top it off be bitching.
So with it being $25 to play a hand, I decide to raise with position instead of calling.
AK, 3 callers, nothing
KQ, 3 callers, nothing,
66, 3 callers, nothing,
AQ, I call big raise, nothing (thankfully, QQ guy had AA and finally found his nuts and bet something)
So next thing I know, I am down $250. I buy back up to the max ($400) and begin grinding my way back (had to grind at this table as people were now stuck and were not going to fold to a big raise and then a continuation bet.. you had better hit the flop if you were going to bet it because someone was going to call you or move all in).

Got about $200 back when the following hand happened:
I picked up Q9s and decided to call as the table had settled down somewhat from the raise fest it was at the beginning (you could actually limp with position to see a flop). The AK lady from earlier pops it to $25, 2 calls in front of me, I call and one calls behind. Flop is J95 rainbow. She bets $25 again, fold, fold, I call (she usually comes out alot stronger than this so I wanted to see how she played the turn), fold behind. It is now just her and I. Turn is a J, she bets $40 (very weak bet from her.. standard here is $80 or $100 from her).. I cant just call her or she will put me a tough spot with a large river bet, so I reraise to $90 so I can her to fold or at least find out where I am in the hand (she reraises and I fold) and get a show down for cheap if she calls (I didnt think she would make a big river bet with me reraising the turn). She flat calls (I have seen her do this when she was beat.. she does not slow play once the turn gets there if she has something). River is a J, she checks and I check behind (she is not going to call if she is beat and she is tricky so if I value bet $50, she is going read it as weak and push in for her remaining $300 which I would have a tough time calling with that board). I show the 9 ( Jacks full of 9s), she mucks and I take down a nice pot.
This hand enabled me to turn a loss into a decent win ($150).

Overall, I would highly recommend the Sun Cruz. It is a fun trip (especially in the day time as during the ride out, you can check out the scenery. You have to wait until the ship is 3 miles out to play so it is about a hour ride out), great staff, excellent dealers and good food. About the dealers, I had a very good, knowledgeable and fast dealer both sessions. When I went to the Borgata, the dealers changed every 30 minutes, some were good, some were horrible and some I could not even understand and this slowed the game down. So the dealers alone made the trip worth the time.

Hopefully, JD and I are will be heading down there this Friday to play in the $100 NL tourny and to grind the cash tables on the night cruise.

Iron Man bonus, Dookie and Holding on

Alright, the blog still suck but its mine and I am proud of it (sort of like having an ugly dog)

Was going to go down to .25/.50 but I receive my Iron Man bonus which pushed me back over 2K, so I am staying with the .50/1 (big time cash player here..lol). Played the Mookie on Wed and received a sick suck out when my 9s where beat by 7s. I raised preflop, the 7s called. Flop was 248 w 2 spades (or something like that.. they were all lower than 9s). The 77 genious checks and I bet about half the pot (was not looking to build a big pot early in tournament). The 77 Einstein insta shoves (and we know how strong insta shoves are)... so I put him on a spade draw and call. Turn is a 7 and next poker savant wins with a set. Sick, Sick, Sick.

I did manage to pull of a second in the Dookie (which is my favorite tournament right now... cant beat different games with a turbo strategy to boot).

Funny stat of the week... I played in the $26 PLO tourny and cashed right after the bubble. I won a total of 5 hand and was beyond card dead... Got interesting just to see if I could hold on and cash.

Bankroll Management

OK. Been getting my a@@ handed to me in the PLO games lately. Started with a BR of about $3000 2 months ago after I placed second in a tourny and have grinded it down to $1900 (if it wasnt for rakeback and bonuses I would be down even further) so I am dropping levels again. Going down to the .25/.50 game (I had worked my way up to the 2/4 game but after several shellings there and at the 1/2 tables I moved down to .50/1 only to get shelled there this week) I am going to stay with a 1% buy in for PLO cash games and tournys.

Last year at this time, I had grinded my way to a small BR (about $3800) playing 1/2 and 2/4 limit holdem. At these stakes, I was grinding out bonuses and owning most of the tables. At the same time I was doing well (10% ROI) in the $36 turbo SNG's. Decided to move to the 5/10 tables with my $3800. I went through a month of shellings at the 5/10 table and $36 SNG's until I only had about $1000 left. Instead of moving down, I decided to get it all back by playing 20/40 and 100 SNG ... which was pfs (pretty f***ing stupid) as I went broke. To anyone who is reading this crappy blog, a word to the wise MOVE UP WHEN YOU ARE ON A HEATER... NOT WHEN YOU ARE GETTING YOUR A@@ HANDED TO YOU.

So this time, I am going to follow some BR principals, swallow my pride and move up or down based on my current BR.

Weekly summary

Held on and qualified for the 50K at Sportsbook next Sunday. This was a 3 coin rebuy and add on tourny (basically a freeroll). Fortunately, I only had to use 3 coins to qualify. Got tight near the end and I did well not to donk it up and lose a seat. Beyond this tournament, this was a crap week for tourys.
Chads skillz tourn.. out early
Mookie.. 12th... just missed the money
Dookie.. bubbled the money with a 4th
Riverchasers.. out early
100K Sportbook.. out midway.
26PLO tournys.. (Played 2 of them) no cashs and in tonights, ran full house into full house (of course I had the bottom end).
22 PLO .. out midway (got crippled when a player hit a set on the turn when they should have folded to the flop reraise as I had top pair and the nut flush draw)
FTOPs qualifier.. 0 for 3
5.50 Rebuy.. out first when AK got setted by 99
50/50 qualifier.. out midway
26 turbo token SNG.. 5 of them.. nada (not even a cash)

I would really like to forget about this week but now that I have blogged it, I can remember it forever.

I did receive a nice deposit from Rakebrain this week... I grinded out $600 worth a rakeback (best yet). So far, I have made about $1200 over the last 4 months in rake. If you want to know more about setting up an account. Let me know as I get a kick back for each player I refer. If you already have an account, set up another account in your wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend/uncle (you get the point) name. But make sure you set it up through Rakebrain and let me refer you (I am untiltable and greedy :-)

Just missed a trip to Ireland at Sportsbook. I played here last summer as UncleBrad and did pretty well. I stopped playing there when it took 3 months for me to cash out but I am going to start playing there again as you can not beat their Coin and Card freerolls.
Played in a 30 Coin freeroll at Sportsbook.. Top 1o got a $162 seat to the 100K and the winner got a $8500 package to a tournament in Ireland. I lost a huge race when my AK lost to PokerMessiahs 88 (PokerMessiah won the tourny). If I win that hand, I have about 125K in chips and have a 3 to 1 lead. I was still doing well even after that hand but lost two more races to put me behind. I fought my way back to second place only to lose half my chips on a bluff and the remaining chips w A7 vs KK (at the final table I ran 1010 into QQ, lost a bluff pot to AA and lost the final pot to KK). I really felt I was due as I have never won a tourny with over 100 player and before the final table, I had won every race.. the AK vs 88 was the first race I lost and the one hand the would have put me in a dominate position.... so I am still winless in tourny with over 100 players.

Counting last nights loss in the PLO Hi/Lo tourny, I am 0 for 3 in tournys with over 100 players... so I still havent hit my goal of winning a tourny with over 100 players.. going to keep hammering away at it this year and see if I can pull one off (going to WSOP this year.. the main event would be a nice tourny to break my streak :-)

On a positive note I did finish up $50 on Sat and $110 on Sun on the $1 PLO table.

Pulled off a 12th in the PLO tourny.. nice to finally cash in this but I still cant seal the deal and win a tourny with over 100 players.. I got knocked out when my KKxx got turned by an Ace. Lee Watkinson was short stacked and on my right so if my hand holds up, I am in 5th and have a good chance to get a bounty and a shirt.
The bubble was there to abuse but I sat around and waited for the cash to get aggressive.
Also, came in 21st in the Riverchaser when I lost a race with AQ to JJ. The JJ belonged to Loretta8 and she went on the win the tourny... very frustrating evening of tournament poker.. lol
On a good note, I did finish up $110 on the PLO .50/1 tables.

New Year and I am committed to blogging :-)

OK.. lets try to get this year started out better than how I finished last year. First off, I need some 2008 resolutions/goals.
1. Lose some weight.. Anheiser Bush keeps sending me thank you letters so this might be a sign that I need to get off the sauce and get to the gym.
2. Win a fcking tournament that has over 100 players.. I have won several under 100 but never won one with more than that (I got 2nd 3 times this year). To do this I need to read some strategy blogs/books and play about 300 MTTs this year (only played about 50 last year).
3. Get a purpose for this blog other then me just posting info.. I need to create something that is worth reading.. going to take some time though.
4. Get out to Vegas in June for the WSOP.. I want to play in the $2000 PLO event.
5. Spend more time with the family... take some time to kick, throw and shoot the ball with the boys in the afternoons. Also plan some family trips.
6. Find a job at a college that has a pharmacy school for my wife and is in a warm and tropical setting.. Hawaii is the front runner but there are some schools in West Palm Beach that look promising.

Some lofty goals there but I hopefully I can hit a few.
Pretty much another crappy post but please refer to Goal 3.
